Viswasam : Nayanthara’s Towering Performance as Niranjana and Kannaana Kanney stand out in this Festive Release
Continuing with their Trend of Family Relationships (Brother-Brother in Veeram, Brother-Sister in Vedalam, Husband-Wife in Vivegam), this Fourth Siva-Ajith Collaborative Venture Focuses on the Relationship of a Father-Daughter duo.
The Writing is Weak and Insipid. Ajith’s face and eyes look puffed and tired in most of the shots. He lacks the physical vigour he expressed in Vivegam. Robo Shankar and Thambi Ramaiah just blabber unmemorable dialogues throughout the movie. The comedy scenes in the first half are mostly ridiculous. Kovai Sarala is a repetitive bore. Jagapati Babu is poorly written. But it is good to see his antagonistic character transform at the end of the movie unlike most commercial films where the villain is either jailed or killed.
After many Solo Heroine subjects, it is understandable as to why Nayanthara had signed on to play the Female Lead opposite a huge star like Ajith. The Role has More to Offer to her and Vice Versa and as Dr.Niranjana, she Aces it with a Memorable Performance. Vivek is an enjoyable breeze as Nayanthara’s assistant in the second half. After Veeram, Viswasam is a Masterstroke by Director Siva to help Ajith regain the highly important Family Audience required for the Box Office. Realising that D.Imman’s Kannaana Kanney sung by Sid Sriram is one of the major Highlights, Siva’s decision to split the song into two with a time gap in between has worked well.
Each time, it feels Different and Special when Ajith advises his fans and the audience in his movies. When other actors give out advice in their movies, it mostly just comes out as bland dialogues and is not much perceived by the general audience. But when Ajith advises, be it for Liquor or Cigarette or on How to Treat Women (Vedalam) or on How to Raise a Child, there is Hidden Honesty and Authenticity in it. It does not Sound Preachy at all. Even though he does not Participate in Award Shows or Audio Launches or Public Events, we all know that he Lives True to what he Says. He does not speak politics or about corruption because he knows that a movie will not be able to change it. But he speaks about Self Confidence, Character and Familial Relationships because he believes that he will be able to create a change in Personality and an Impact at the Grassroot Level. Credit to Siva as well for this Concept and all those Dialogues in Veeram, Vedalam, Vivegam and Viswasam.
Rajini, Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Mammooty, Mohanlal, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are all older than Ajith but they still have to play a younger version with jet black hair to satisfy their audience for their movies to work. A lot of things might change in Indian Cinema, but I’m pretty sure that Thala Ajith will remain as the only Indian Hero who can Sport Grey Hair in Multiple Movies and still Rock Movie Theatres with his Terrific Screen Presence.
