Thalapathy Vijay Collaborates with Director A.R.Murugadoss for the 3rd time after the Blockbuster Successes of Thuppakki and Kaththi. A.R.Murugadoss’ Screenplay is Average in the First Half and Gripping in the Second Half beginning from the Ayothiya Nagar Campaign.
Vijay as Sundar has his usual Charming Screen Presence in Sarkar. His Dance Moves are a Treat to Watch and he is Awesome in three Long Single Shot Scenes when he tells his Rameswaram past, when he requests people to Choose a Leader in their Constituency and when he instructs the people to take out their Voter ID and vote in the remaining few hours. His Face looks Dull and Lacks the Freshness he Exhibited in Bairavaa and Mersal.
Varalaxmi is Highly Impressive as Pappa/Komalavalli. She Underplays her Role in a Sophisticated and Calm Manner in Contrast to her Brash Character in Sandakozhi 2. She has Successfully Discovered her Stronghold Character Style.
Keerthy Suresh plays the Quintessential Female Hero Companion. She Dances very well in OMG Ponnu and her presence is awkward in Simtaangaran. She has Unnecessary Presence in many scenes. She joins the list of Kajal in Thuppakki, Samantha in Kaththi and Rakul Preet in Spyder as needless heroines in Murugadoss’ recent movies. Looks like A.R.M has stopped writing Good Heroine roles after Suriya’s movies (Asin in Ghajini and Shruti Haasan in 7aum Arivu). It is High Time Keerthy Suresh signs up another Mahanati / Nadigaiyar Thilagam to Showcase her Acting Prowess and not just pass by in such Commercial Potboilers.
Pala.Karuppiah looks like a Wrong Casting as he does not have the required Villainous Look and therefore does not Display Wickedness as easily as Radha Ravi.
The Biggest Minus in Sarkar are the Action Stunt Sequences and its Poor Computer Graphics (CGI). The Metro Construction Fight Scene and the Ruling Party Office Fight Scene are poorly Choreographed. Although copied from Hollywood, Sarkar does not have any Memorable Mass Moments like the Coin Fight Scene in Kaththi. The Scope for Cinematography is Less as the Movie is Dialogue Rich and Inside Closed Doors for the most part.
A.R.Rahman’s Background Score is Superb with a Fantastic Top Tucker Tune. His Songs do not have a Similar Impact. Simtaangaran falls flat. OMG Ponnu is Second Grade compared to Maacho from Mersal in terms of both Music and Visuals. CEO In The House worked well as the BGM in action sequences than in the actual Hero Introduction song in Las Vegas.
A.R.Murugadoss’ Vintage Touches could be seen in many incidents in the second half of the movie like the Tomato-Ketchup Business. The Lathi-Charge following Vijay’s Confrontation with the antagonists in a Campaign Meeting has a Goosebumps Moment when a lady responds to a policeman who says that she can’t Bear the Pain if he beats her since she’s a Female. She Retorts by saying that she has given Birth to 2 Children and this is Nothing compared to the Pregnancy Pain Encountered by Females. Vijay Emphasises the pain again and compares it to TN going through a similar pain phase and soon giving birth to a new TN. IIT Students as Volunteers in Vijay’s Political Movement have the Maximum Screen Space after Vijay, Keerthy and the 3 Antagonists.
A.R.Murugadoss’ Screenplay Effort and Movie Packaging Magic is Missing in Sarkar. With Uninspiring Performances and Unmemorable Music, Sarkar does not Match up to the Standards of Previous Deepavali Successes Thuppakki and Kaththi in Vijay-Murugadoss Combination.
